The New Ever After

Here’s a little excerpt that might make its way into my next book. This particular piece has not gone through the editing process yet…it will shortly. So, please bear with any mistakes. It looks like The New Ever After will be available the week of August 12th! I’ve included the cover at the end of the excerpt. Enjoy!! Hank and I are at Pony Pasture for the afternoon. I’m sitting on the rocks watching him swim in the rapids of the James River. The sun is bright and the fish are splashing about in the water. I see his hands … Read more…

Land of Suburbia

When I moved to Suburbia I felt a lot like Peter did in Tripped Up Love. I was really fearful about what I was getting myself into. I was a city girl. I was born and raised 18 miles east of New York City. Being in the South was an adjustment and then moving to a subdivision was another. We moved here from Chicago and crowded cities afforded me an anonymity the suburbs did not not. But now I am more entrenched in the suburban life than I ever could have imagined. I drank the Kool Aid. I’m still a … Read more…

We’re supposed to be together

Let me set the scene…this is an excerpt from Heather’s memoir about her life with Hank. Part of this is in The New Ever After, but the rest is only right here for your eyes only! Enjoy! ***This is fiction! Even though I used some names from my real life, there is NO TRUTH to this excerpt! It has not been edited either. My editor is probably cringing!*** Hank asked me to the prom as we passed each other on the steps between third and fourth period one day in school. I said no and rolled my eyes at him. … Read more…

Your words

Your words slay me. My book has reached more people than I ever thought possible. It’s left the 2-3-1-1-3 and moved out into the big, big world. And all kinds of eyes are reading it. Most of the eyes have been kind eyes. I’m meeting people who have been touched by some part of the book. I’m meeting other moms, moms who are being given a second chance at happiness like Heather. Moms who connect with the crazy, suburban lifestyle we are all trying to navigate. My heart swells with every thoughtful comment. It is hands down my favorite thing … Read more…

I might be a little crazy

I’m almost done with book two. Like really super duper close to being finished with it.  But I will tell you what, it is not easy writing a new book and marketing a current book AND taking care of my not-so-little family.  We’re on summer vacation now and I’m not sure where writing well end up fitting into my day.  I know it will be there but I just hope it’s not in the middle of the night. We’ve managed to come up with two slightly offensive but pretty funny marketing ideas thus far.  The first is a picture of … Read more…

Throw uppy

All week I’ve been feeling a little throw uppy. People are reading my work. They are interacting with part of my soul. It’s like having your child up on stage and you’re hoping and hoping they don’t mess up. My adrenaline is pumping and I just can’t settle down. I’m forgetting things and acting slightly cray-cray! And I’m not sure why. The feedback has been great. The book has been spotted in the carpool line, soccer practice and at a doctor’s office. But people keeping telling me they feel like I’m the main character. Well, I’m not Heather. There are … Read more…

The tale of two Peters

Jenni and I meet every Monday to discuss our writing. While we were writing our books we met and discussed plots. We exchanged chapters during the week and gave each other ideas. We hashed out words and ideas. We told each other what worked and what didn’t. We texted late into the night trying to help each other. We were pretty honest. The support was essential to the creation of our novels. We knew what the other person was trying to accomplish and we had to make sure it worked when they put the words on the page. Our books … Read more…

Welcome to the world

Welcome to the world little book! My book is born. It happened faster than I anticipated! It was supposed to take 5-7 days to go on sale and took 9 1/2 hours. Amazing! And the support thus far has been overwhelming! My writing teacher, the incomparable Valley, tells us not to apologize for anything that we write. But being the person that I am, I keep saying things like it’s just a little romance novel. I apologize and downplay what it is automatically. And I’m not going to do that anymore! (Woohoo! Julie’s getting tough!) It’s a book that’s a … Read more…

Dear Adam,

Dear Adam, You are dreamy. Sometime last summer, I decided you were my guy, that you would be my hall pass. My little crush/obsession has grown in recent months and I have found a legion of friends who feel just as I do. They, too, think you are dreamy. They send me pictures, videos, text messages and emails of you and about you. I get messages when you are on Palladia, Ellen or Elvis Duran. One of my student’s moms sent me your almost naked picture with the little hand sticking up in the perfect spot and I have received … Read more…
